Hey guys asking yet another question. Since I fly an experimental pacer with a stock 172 exhaust I'm wondering what is the best exhaust system out there to extract the most power potential for the 0-320?Are there any bolt on performance parts ie. intake tubes for the 0-320?

I don't do much with experimental world, but in car engines - the less the resistence for both intake and exhaust , the better....

"PowerFlow" - those that have experience before and after have good things to report - but they are big bucks!

No need to say more.

Hello, im in Airdrie and thinking of going owner maintenance with my tri pacer...do you have any pictures of your 172 exhaust on your plane??

I have the Sutton exhaust and love it. Easy set up and maintenance free for five years so far, but will not fit a Tri-Pacer.

I like the Sutton, it is a clean installation, low mainenance, good price, less weight...but, needs field approval.

Talking to Brian Sutton I think if we could get 8 to 10 people to commit he would certify his exhaust system on the Pacer and PA22/20. They gotcha is an extra noise test required on aircraft certified after 1955 and that is why he hasn't done it yet.

The Sutton setup resembles the 172 setup I have on mine. I've read that the 172 system is a power robber!

I'd be interested in the Sutton. How does it compare to Leading Edge?

What is the difference between a cross over and a tuned system? Also what provides the most power single or dual pipes? What pipe diameter and tail pipe length is recommended for 0-320's?

Get it done for the Clipper and I would be VERY interested.-Grant

I did not loose any static rpm going from stock to the Sutton on my 150 hp. They claim it will get an increase...maybe some. I wish I had my fuel flow gauge before to see if there was a difference. After, installing the Sutton exhaust I had lots of room to move my battery to the firewall.

Stephen,
I'm interested in your setup having the Sutton and firewall battery. Sounds like a great weight saver when combined with lightweight starter and baffle oil cooler.
Was the approval process ok?
I understand there's talk of getting the exhaust STC'ed too?

I'm thinking this is probably the best long term solution for my CO problem as well. The longer and more forward stack on the Sutton should take care of that.

The Sutton was a field approval, Brian Sutton provided good documentation to make this easier....

Moving the battery to the fire wall was my own work, and yes it did save some weight. But, it also cleaned up the whole starter electrical system. All the the high amperage battery cables are now much shorter and remain in the engine compartment. I reused all the same components including switches and fuses, but you could go to a mag switch with a start position. I do have some pictures of this mod posted.
