First pilot report after a few days of flying.
The plane has very little bounce when landing. The Maule Oleos clearly adsorb bounce better than hydrasorbs. It seems that the lower profile of the PA 18 gear means I am three point landing a bit faster.......hummm. I am just getting used to the gear. Too bad the 6 inch extended gear are not approved on this STC. I'll up date as I figure it out a little more.

There is little to no change in the cruise speed going to the PA 18 gear.
I like the long step for fueling, it's much easier than the Pacer gear.
Still not sure how much effect the oleo's have on landings. I'm wondering about shorting the Maule oleo's.
When people rave about the ACME shocks, what improvement are they referring too?
The absorption when the plop it on, no bounce just absorbs it and you stay stuck with effective brakes cause the wheels are on the ground.
Its to bad that. the gear is shorter than stock pacer if anything you want longer non a streched pacer. You might have to spring for some 35s to make up for it.
You have me debating on doing it to mine now when I do the sea-plane doors. Thanks for posting all that you have. It is interesting that the gear mod actually lowers the plane.

35's, Ha ha. The gear end up being spread out and have a very wide stance. That is what makes the nose lower. I'm considering shortening the Maule oleo's an inch or so. It would be relative easy to do. I'll experiment with pipe first. Brining the wheels inward will change the camber. Right now the camber is zero and the stance is 8 feet. I did not measure my original stance. If anyone is one 26 inch Goodyears let me know what the PA 22/20 stance is.
I assume you will have the wings off when you do the doors. I don't see how you do the PA 18 gear mod without removing the windshield..Maybe a good TIG welder could pull it off. I avoided changing out the right front post because I had already increased that tube when I installed the Day and Night left door long ago.
Advantages are much stronger lander gear and lower fuselage and a little better absorbing landing gear than hydrasorbs. I would like to hear from someone who has landed on Maule oleo's and ACME's.
Disadvantages are lower nose, slightly less aoa for takeoff and landing position. Unless you get 35's.....ha.
It would be interesting if ACME were approved for the sc. I wonder if they have adjustable lengths?
