    Need some Bling !

I’ll bring this back from the dead, again. I just went to order a couple hats and stickers for myself and my son. Shirts, hoodies, etc. would be awesome. I think I still have a golf shirt with the old SWPO logo embroidered on it but I’m not sure it fits me any more. Anybody else looking for...

    Carlson Aircraft

Give Wicks a call. Their business has downsized a bit but they are still there. Well, the aircraft business is, the organ company (which is why they originally got into spruce) is gone.

    Odyssey Battery

Yes, completely bypassed. Maybe someone thought the alternator breaker(s) solved the protection problem, I haven’t a clue. My employer has lost two airplanes to fires that started in flight, one of those was fatal to the two crew members, so I think about in-flight fires too.

    Odyssey Battery

I’ll have to dig out my paperwork, the alternator on my airplane was done on a field approval during the engine overhaul/swap in 2004, almost a decade before I bought the airplane. I do have a 5A field switch/breaker but not a clue how it is wired without looking at the docs. My irritation was...

    Odyssey Battery

/sarcasm on/ You have a master solenoid? /sarcasm off/ That isn’t how my 1957 is wired. The only solenoid I have is for the starter. That is how it was built, just double checked the print (14706). The 1950 Pacer I flew the starter was “hot” all the time, you didn’t need the master on to start...

    Odyssey Battery

Josh revised his STC after I did mine. I liked not only the battery but replacing the fuses with a circuit breaker master switch. Of course when I got into my airplane and found out someone had bypassed the main fuses I was really glad I did it! (This was done before the...

    Welding

I don't weld, neither does my (Missouri born but Alaska experienced) IA. The welder(s) my IA and I used for my tailwheel. They both do gas, only Chrissy (seated) does TiG. In her past she was a jewelry smith and a naval architect. The welds weren't art but according to folks who know they are...

Tail Wheel Colt Weight and Balance

Rick, it doesn’t matter where the scale touches the airplane as long as the arm is correctly measured/computed. If the Tailwheel weight was lower then the mains would be correspondingly higher, total weight is unchanged. The most important thing for an accurate weight and balance is that the...

Can I still get the metallized STC?

I did a quick run through the FAA site https://drs.faa.gov/browse/STC/doctypeDetails and those are three separate STCs. The -325 and -327 have the specific parts listed, -282 doesn't list parts. Reissued as late as 2007 or so, the address is in Medford, MA. Good luck with the hunt!

Installing Steve's Gascolator - helpful hints?

Re: Steve’s Gascolator I’ve had one in my Pacer nearly a decade, just reread Mark’s statement because I’d say the same thing!

    Strobe upgrade?

Well, the horse is already out of the barn, this beacon has been up there eight years (since I recovered it). Previously the airplane had the full Grimes coffee grinder up there. Rudder was looked at by two IAs in 2013 when it was glass beaded and painted, it looked fine then. Time will tell...

    Strobe upgrade?

I have this Whelen on a Univair bracket. The Whitaker mount is just for scale. The hardest part is getting the wires up inside the stub! Jim

Fabric Repair Painted per Randolph System

I just did the full 13 coats on my tail post repair. Horrible color match but it’s airworthy. What is written above is exactly correct, the aluminum is pre-mixed, but you thin it to spray. Follow the manual and you’ll do fine! PM me if you want to discuss it. Jim Wear your breathing protection!
