    Fuselage restoration

My only comment would be that media blasting will find very thin, corroded, tubes that may look good on the surface. I had a few tubes with tiny pin holes in them that opened up a lot more with a pick. Media blasting found more.... I doubt that chemical stripping would have the same (positive?)...

    Airworthiness Directive 2025-02-11 Rudder Replacement

Good news! However, the AMOC only applies to your PA16. What are the next possible steps to get the applicability changed? Also, are AMOCs only applicable to US registered aircraft? TonyN

    Ignition switch date code

An Piper owner in the UK has an ignition switch, part number 10-357200-1, which is apparently subject to a 1977 AD for inspection every 100 hours. It's easy to comply with the AD, however switches with a four digit ‘date code’ are exempt. His switch has ‘H15F’ printed on it. Searching for the...

    Anti-shimmy tailwheel spring clips

Advice please. I decided I would replace the spring clips that connect my anti-shimmy springs to the rudder's aluminium steering arm (and to the tailwheel). The clips work fine at the tailwheel end but I just can't get the clips to go through the holes in aluminium steering arm. The new clips...

    Fuselage restoration

When I was recovering my Vagabond fuselage I found a few pin holes in some tubes which weren't that obvious. Poking the pin holes with a sharp ended object showed that the tube needed replacing.. TonyN

    Wagabond build

Looking great! The windshield strip(s) are really a quite complex shape. Did they come with your kit or did you have to make them yourself? TonyN

    Fuselage restoration

I was working full time when I recovered my Vag's fuselage and rudder. So, could only work on the airplane after work, at weekends, and days off. Normal life stuff also gets in the way... Fortunately, the fuselage was in my garage at home, so no trips to the airfield needed. I replaced the...

    Fuselage restoration

I found the use of a rotisserie essential when I was recovering my Vagabond fuselage. I had minimal spare space in my double garage so the rotisserie really helped when doing the fabric work and spraying.. TonyN

    Fuselage restoration

Take photos of EVERYTHING! It is surprising how quickly you can forget where bits came from. Also, keep all the old hardware - helps when it comes to buying new items so you don't end up with bolts that are too long/short... TonyN

    Airworthiness Directive 2025-02-11 Rudder Replacement

    Airworthiness Directive 2025-02-11 Rudder Replacement

Oh dear.. I hope Univair is starting up a production line making rudders.... I have 10 years to comply, assuming the UK airworthiness authorities agree with the FAA. I presume they will. TonyN

    Removing old paint

I wanted to repair, clean up and re-paint a small fitting. It had previously been painted with W-2248 Epibond white primer and Mk2 for Metal top coat. I really struggled to strip off the previous paint and primer, even with soaking the part in MEK for an hour or so. Any tips for how to remove...
