Brian,
How did you apply the tapes around the frame of the D window on the stbd side?
Did you use pinked tape or cut out an appropriately shaped piece of fabric?
I can't visualize how to use tape and not finish with an awful mess!

Piper didn't tape it, at least not on the later model airplanes.
Some pics of the individual parts of the airbox...
The pattern, there are some differences from this to what I cut... the inlet bends got more material so it could bend in also and I wound up cutting the lower bend off..
The upper piece front..
Upper piece back..
Lower piece front..
And back..
One of the corner reinforcements for the lower section..
Other side of same..
One of the upper corner reinforcements..
And again the back side of it...
And finally some of the main box...

Cowling is almost done...
Riveting the box together...
Corner pieces on the inside of the box...
Riveting on to the lower cowl..
Done...
I re used the lower cowl lip setup that Andy made into the old cowl... it is set up so that the lip can be easily removed and replaced with different sizes...
Pic of the lip installed from the outside...
Cowl back on the airframe..
Cut out a skin for the right door... slip rolling it to shape...
Door set in place and marked for trimming...
Trimmed, drilled and latched... the cowl latch fittings are from a Gulfstream 1... made for an easy to make door...
Riveted on a stiffener for the lower edge..
Hinge riveted on...
Removed the oil cooler lip...
Here it is off the nose bowl...
This is a piece of .040 condition O dead soft aluminum... pounding out to a general shape with sand bag and lead shot hammer...
First fitting of the filler piece...
Drilled and clecoed in place...
Riveted on... just needs some body filler to finish...
Removed the centering disk...
And some pictures of the disk...
I also made a quick drawing... dimensions are approximate and will need adjusting for proper fit...

Would. You consider selling oil cooler lip as removed ? N22BQ
Brian, can you do me a favor and take a picture of the bottom (cowl exit) when you get it finished?
Thanks!
The following pictures are for Tom...
Keep in mind, this is right off the old lower cowl... Andy wanted to keep it as the lip part can be changed out if needed...

Now... the weekly photos..
Baffle modifications....
Andy's old baffles were a mess, so he bought new ones from Airforms... unfortunately, Airforms does not make baffles for an 0-360 Pacer.. only 0-320 baffles... so I have to modify them to fit the wider 0-360..
The left rear baffle.. this one has to be modified to clear the engine mount by cutting out the corner and building a box around it... here I cut out the section...
This is the section of the mount that needs to be cleared...
The baffle set in place to check for fit... still needs trimming in a couple of spots..
Baffle trimmed and a box made out of some .025 scrap...
Box riveted on...
Another mod to the left baffle is to move the blast tube in about an inch... this of course requires a block off plate for the old location...
Tube moved and plate installed..
Baffle installed showing the new blast tube location... note the center section of the crank case and the gap between the left and right sides... I will have to make a filler plate for there but it really shows the width difference between the 0-360 and 0-320...
Right side baffle mods, the blast tube is covered and the inboard SCAT hose is also removed and covered as the flange hits the engine mount otherwise.. the blast tube is also moved inboard like the right side...
The lower section of the right baffle also gets extended in to close the gap next to the crank case... this is my filler piece..
And the piece fitted to the baffle...
The front baffles are PA-18-180 baffles from Airforms, so I did not have to extend them any to fit the cylinders... however, I did make some front plates to direct the cooling air up into the cowling to force the air more evenly and not get a bunch of loss from air going under the front cylinders...
Right front baffle got the same treatment but in two pieces with a joggle piece between the cylinder head and barrel...
Decided to strip the 7 layers of paint and primer off the nose bowl... its in real good shape.. only found one small section of body filler that I removed which can be seen here below what would be the left side inlet... (right side of photo)
I will be massaging out some of the smaller dents and will use some body filler to make perfect next week...
