I am super proud of Jon! Something that is concerning me with him headed out on solo cross coutries is the 121.5 ELT. I am thinking about installing a 406 ELT. The aircraft does not have a GPS installed. What are folks experiences with brands, mounting location, and general thoughts on install. The current ELT is installed on the hat shelf. It seems a little flimsy. Will it be secure enough for the new ELT?

Aero in stock has the best price I can find anywhere for the ACK E04 complete install $462.60. We also carry a PLB it use the spot tracker and you can see where he goes LOL.

I would recommend a 406 ELT with built in GPS. If activated it sends a burst with a bread crumb trail of the track the airplane has flown. The search and rescue guys tell me that if you have that they are going on a rescue mission. 121.5 is a search and rescue. PLBs work well also as do personal trackers like SPOT and DeLorne.
