    Default Track widths on PA-20

What are the track widths for the Narrow gear PA-20 and the wide gear PA-20?

Thank you Steve. I suppose the 72" narrow track measurement vs the 84" wide track measurement makes the gear I have in question clearly a wide track gear.

Narrow track gear also uses a different hydrosorb, and the tailwheel bracket is at a different angle.

Good points. The added wedge for the tail wheel angle change is easy to spot but the hydrosorb is another problem. Is there anything physically observable to determine which one is on the airplane. I see no part numbers.

Drawing 13148 shows the later design, and also used on the PA-22, drawing 12638 is the early one. That drawing isn’t in the short wing CD.

The upper ears for the bungees are actually welded to the hydrasorb on the 50 pacer. The lower ears are welded to a fitting that is screwed into the hydrasorb shaft.

Later models use a 3 piece hydrasorb with a removable collar with the upper ears welded to the collar. In comparison the lower fitting on later models is held in place by a roll pin.

PM me I can provide pics if needed.

Also there is only one bungee on the 50 Pacer hydrasorb, smaller ears, that is another physical trait you could see.

Somewhere on this site are pictures that I believe Todd posted of the early hydrosorb but I can't find the post.

I could not see the lower end with the welded on lugs. However, it looks like the later model hydrasorb because it does have two bungees. The smaller lug on the early hydrasorb probably would not hold on two bungees
