    Default Oil pressure and temp

Last weekend I noticed a oil pressure drop. On take off the pressure is around 90psi at 180 degree. Aftre flying 1h the temperature increases to 200 and the pressure drops to 55psi.
It has the oil cooler in the front and no ext. oil filter. After the flight I touched the oilcooler and in my opinion it was not hot enough.
Question: can you touch it or is it too hot after flying an long time at 25°C outside temp?

The oil temp starts to decrease quickly in the decent and landing and taxi without a lot of power applied but in my experience it has been very hot to the touch.

I was referring to the oil cooling before you get a chance to check the temperature at the cooler after engine shut down but it is still very hot to the touch. I have a stack of those original brass oil coolers and could send you one. Not sure what the cost would be to Germany.

What temperature do you fly? 180°? So 200° or 205° is too high, even in green. But what is the main problem, the high temperature (resulted by low pressure) or the low pressure (resulted by high temperature)?

The engine has 2300 hours and is from 1969

The calibration of the original gauges is all over the place. My oil temperature runs 110-120 degrees over outside air temperature. You are still in the green with both pressure and temperature. The pressure can be adjusted up if need be. Did the temperature or pressure change recently?

Much of the written guidance I have see recommends 180 as a minimum to assure moisture boils out.
I'm not bothered if it gets to 210 or a little higher especially out here in desert territory in the summer.

oil pressure may well fall as the temperature rises -- the oil thins as it gets hotter.
Are you in the green arc? that is to say the limits as noted in your POH?

The temperature is in the green arc, but the pressure is green/yellow (50psi)

NRW, what brand and weight of oil are you using?
Does your engine have a vernatherm bypass device?
Are outside temps hotter than they were a month or two ago (we have seen on news that Europe is having a heat wave.)
Same general location of your home base, and what is field elevation, etc.

Any other clues, especially things that are different (moved home base from 100' MSL to 5000' MSL) would be helpful.
A call to your local Lycoming Technical rep would be a good idea, in the states they are very helpful.

    Good luck,
