There are way too many AN42B bolts to choose from, does anyone know which one would be the right fit for a PA16? I am placing an order for the scott arm and wanted to include the bolts..

The less expensive arm that I noted above will use an AN43B-6. The Scott 1140 arm will use an AN42B-6.

Like called out in the linked thread I have always used the -7 with an AN960-10 washer and an AN310-3 nut and cotter pin so it can rotate a bit.

I would also check that the holes in the rudder itself are not worn as well. I am talking about the holes between the rudder and the arm. The holes where the springs attach have a bushing and have seen those drilled out and a larger bushing installed and it broke off.

Rather than use AN3 bolts to attach the bracket to the rudder, I taper reamed and used AN386 taper pins with AN 975 taper pin washers. After about 800 hours of hard work, at the last annual, for the first time, I had to take up the taper pin nuts by 1/3 of a turn and they are completely rigid again. You need to take a lot of care with a taper reamer. My old (recently departed at 97years) engineer mate said 'taper reamers go not enough, not enough, @#** too much!'.

    Default Scott rudder arm 1140

Hi all. Would like to replace my Scott Rudder Arm 1140. Have determined that mine is slightly twisted. Univair has one but not sure if it is correct. Also not sure how long the shank should be. Please advise.

I merged your thread with another on the same subject. Good info in the previous posts.
