    I wonder how they managed that? That tab is prebent on a new part. Someone was looking out for you. A guy around here built engines for RV builders. Evidently he didn't bother to install that lock plate. One ended up in a field and he died in the other one when the gear came off of it.

    My 320 was like that too....I bet lots of these engines have non reported prop strikes

    Little continentals have an awesome crank gear attachment! Looks like my 320 bolt did not have rolled threads, could have caused the problem.

    Lycoming says 12 years between overhauls, I'm gettin nervy me. Sign a lot of annuals/100hrs and its been a hell of a lot longer than 12 years on just about every engine!

    It is not mandatory.

    Never heard or read anything about rolled threads vs cut threads on the crank bolt, just the bolt part number. Done a lot of prop strike inspections over the years but never found a lock tab broken. I would think if the force was so great to break the lock tab then the dowel pin was toast as well?
