    It is fine to work with multiple STC's. It is the installers responsibility to work out the compatibility of the differing STC's. Talk to your A&P. I have three STC's and one field approval for my doors. I used bits of each to get what I wanted.

    Are field approvals still a thing? I've heard they are basically non-existent as no FISDO in the lower 48 is willing to take on the responsibility to approve anything.

    Many FSDOs won’t do field approvals but a lot of DARs have field approval authority. May not be free anymore, but they can be done. Best to get a copy of the AFS-300 job aid to see what is possible as a field approval and what will require an STC.

    I did a field approval on a Cessna 140 last year.
    I had to send the paperwork to the Cleveland office and they forwarded it to Chicago.

    I completed a Field Approval on a Cessna 180 just a few weeks ago. The FAA expects the application meet all requirements. Not all A&P's want to do all the paperwork. Not all PMI's can do field approvals, they have to go through training.
