Seems to me that if you perform a burn test you can call it owner produced part. If questioned, I would
state safety as my motivation

I had no headroom issues at 6’. I have thicker seat bottoms also. On a cold day my headset just barley rubs the headliner until the memory foam warms up and lowers me.

Burn tests can only be done by specific labs and need to be observed by a DER to count for certification. A reminder, owner produced parts need to conform to the type design, so changing stuff results in an alteration. If it is a major alteration, then it would need “approved data”.
Suggest you read AC43.13-1b chapter 9 section 4.
