Reinstalled all the metal parts. Someone didnt take a picture of how the aileron pulleys where mounted. Thankfully I have the drawings cd.
After squaring the wings I started on the actual wingtip mod. With the pieces cut to size and shape I riveted the splice plates on to them, then onto the end of the spar. What you see here is all they call out for splicing. For comparison I held up the old spar cap strips that where cut off. Not a lot of extra wing, just more full chord size wing.
Install of the full size rib is straightforward, then you use some of the old braces to brace the bottom of the rib as the fabric changes direction there.
Only thi.g I dont care for is that the drag strut sits in the shop ends of the splice rivets. 20191201_093024.jpeg20191206_185519.jpeg20191206_185547.jpeg20191206_185553.jpeg20191207_132955.jpeg20191207_180725.jpeg20191207_181140.jpeg20191207_182513.jpeg20191207_182538.jpeg20191207_184341.jpeg20191207_190416.jpeg20191208_151547.jpeg20191208_165529.jpeg

Received the tank bay ribs from Dakota Cub today. Saw that the tail didnt have the same shape as the rest of the original ribs; so I modified.
With some soft .032" and a die hastily cut from plywood I made four little plates to rivet on the ends to give the proper shape to hold the trailing edge metal.
Reason for replacing the tank bay ribs was some cracks and overall poor appearance from the fabric being held with pk screws. I plan on blind stitching when it comes fabric time.20191211_171649.jpeg20191211_184200.jpeg20191211_190146.jpeg

They sent you PA18 ribs instead of PA20/22. The Super Cub uses a different false spar shape in the flap area where the Pacer and Tri-Pacer use the same false spar shape for the aileron and flap area. They all use the same shape for ailerons and flaps.

Hmm, I'll check the part #'s. The catalog described them as PA -22/20 tank bay ribs. Oh well, they're going to work right now.

Just looked. They bill part # F-TB-02 as tank bay ribs for both PA-18 and PA-22. Go figure.

Anybody have a good idea on a repair for the aileron and flap spars where they corroded through at the hinges?20191213_131316.jpeg

Mine looked like that when I took them apart. A previous owner had scabbed a patch over the corrosion.

Steve made new spars for mine. Lots of rivets to drill out and replace.

I'm leaning towards that unless I get an aha moment or someone has an idea on repair that would be simpler.
But I'll probably redo the whole spar

I buy new spars from Dakota Cub or Univair and replace. There really is no way to splice that spar that I am comfortable with. Start at about post 59 on this thread. https://www.supercub.org/forum/showt...Wing-Kit/page2 Very good, simple way to rebuild your aileron or flap. I build a much more elaborate jig but this should work great. The drawings are on the CD as well which helps a lot on rivet sizes and washout.

That was a good read with good pointers. Is purchasing the spars worth it over making some? It doesnt look too difficult as its basically a channel made from .032"
