Re: Stewart Wingtip Install/ wing overhaul.
New sheetmetal for behind the fuel tanks. It's so shiny and pretty it's almost a shame to cover it with fabric. Almost.
Also got the new tank bay ribs and wing root ribs on. Nutplates installed on wing root rib will make fairings much cleaner.
Other thing that happened was getting the wingtip bows bent up. I drew out the shape on the floor according to the drawings and using a progressive roller formed the 3/4" conduit into shape.20191214_170446.jpeg20191214_170458.jpeg20191215_113020.jpeg20191215_114140.jpeg

Re: Stewart Wingtip Install/ wing overhaul.
Drawing 14442 shows it between rib #11 & 12 on the 150 hp wing. I have seen them installed all over the place.

Re: Stewart Wingtip Install/ wing overhaul.
A very interesting thread for me as I am currently collecting all the parts necessary for this STC.
The STC instructions state to install new tip ribs using either U1228-04 and U1227-01 or Piper Rib 13052-02 on either wing.
When I check Univair, 13052-02 relates to 3 different Univair parts numbers varying in price from $103 - $150 dollars.
Is anyone aware of any real difference between these Univair parts and if there is any advantage to using one over the other? Would a priced based selection be the best solution in this case?
Great job on bending the wing tip bow - I had really struggled to get a good shape plotted out based on the instructions.

Re: Stewart Wingtip Install/ wing overhaul.
Thanks, I think laying it out to scale on the floor was the trick.
I used the F-02 rib from dakota cub, even cheaper still and I prefer its build design over the univair stamped ribs.

Re: Stewart Wingtip Install/ wing overhaul.
Installed landing light mounts. Yes plural, one in each wing. When 31P was still a Tri-Pacer it had the landing light on the nose strut. I had a fixture I scavenged off a Colt wing I had. Fabbed the second one using the first as a pattern. Took all of three hours to make something that univair wants $950 dollars for. Of course I haven't made the lens yet but I have a former on loan, shouldn't take but 30-40 minutes and an oven.
I have the whelen parmetheus plus led lamps for both landing and taxi positions. To control them I have a micro pulse landing light control that's only 1"x1"x2". It has circuit a on, circuit b on, both, both flash at 44 ppm, alternate at 44ppm, alternate at 88 ppm, and alternate at 120 ppm. With the aveo ultra galactica led nav/strobe lights I should be seen.
Fitted the new wingtip bows to the wings. Took a bit to get the first one. Used a piece of angle as a strait edge to verify the bow was even with the top of the rest of the wing.
Second one I massaged into the same shape as the first and it only took half the time to install.
Using a scothbrite roloc disc cleaned as much of the galvanic coating off as I could. Only got contamination in one weld, quick grind and reweld and it was all good.
Last picture show the old wood bow in it's original spot. Gives some perspective to how much more full chord wing you get without making the wing a whole lot longer.20191217_180236.jpeg20191219_172740.jpeg20191221_140354.jpeg20191221_142414.jpeg20191221_144949.jpeg20191221_161631.jpeg20191222_125647.jpeg20191222_092947.jpeg

Re: Stewart Wingtip Install/ wing overhaul.
Last bit before Christmas break was coping the edges around the nav light mounts. Used Polyfibers Super Fill, and aside from it sagging (I hogged it all on in one coat so my fault) I liked using it. Quite easy to file and sand.20191223_180834.jpeg

Re: Stewart Wingtip Install/ wing overhaul.
Awesome progress! I need to get out there to check it out before you get it all put back together.

Re: Stewart Wingtip Install/ wing overhaul.
Jason, I may have missed it earlier in the thread - Did you make your own position light fixtures? Great progress by the way. Merry Christmas!
