    Default Carb

What are some of you thought about rebuilding carburetor yourself, as opposed to sending them out and getting an 8130?

To do a full overhaul, there are a lot of special jigs and fixtures, along with some special tools needed. I’ve pulled MS carbs apart, replaced floats, ventures, needles and seats, Accelerator pumps. But never a full overhaul.

I leave that to repair stations that have all the special tools and fixtures and can flow test it when done. Also they can make sure they are up to date on the service bulletins.

I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but ditto what Gilbert said.

I've rebuilt carbs on many different autos & motorcycles over the years, but the critical issue (isn't everything critical in an airplane?) to me is the flow test. That, I'm not capable of performing, and in an airplane, I personally feel there's little to no allowance for "close enough."

The original issue that persisted on my carb, even after the last "repair"... is now gone. All aircraft carb shops are not equal -- choose wisely. I sent mine to D&G Supply in Niles, MI. Now I know it's right.
