Re: Shortwingers please take care
Alex, thanks for your perspective and take care. We are staying in here. It's just me, my immediate family (the grandkids are kept at a distance) and my airplane. My 85 year old uncle who lives in Marseille, says France fines people 135 Euros if they are out on the streets without an official approved form.

Thank you.
It will be long, very long.....

Re: Shortwingers please take care
While we in the Upper Mojave aren’t currently inundated with large numbers, we are taking precautions to slow the spread. I myself has spent many days in isolation, since last week. Only coming in close contact with my flight instructor last Saturday. I urge everyone to not just take care by social isolation, but to not to go overboard and horde food and supplies. Get what you must, but no more. Please.

Prayers for all affected thus far.
We are acting proactively to protect ourselves and others.
I do not intend to curtail my flying activities unless I am
sick. I am maintaining distance, washing hands/face.
It is essentially a severe flu season. Protect yourself.
In as much as is possible, protect your local economy - find ways
to support businesses by transacting differently
(email, online, telephone, etc). Otherwise, we all face a much larger
problem and no solution at all

I would like to fly but I'm based in an international airport that is closed.
I would like to spend some free time to wash my plane for example, but I cannot move from my house, only to go to work (my activity is considered necessary) and go to supermarket.
About the economy.... it will much worst than now, in my opinion.
My wife has a women clothes shop, she is closed since 2 weeks and we don't know when she can open.
We have also an employed, and we must pay...
In my autoparts shop we are in 10, now the sales are more or less 70% less than usual...
Yes, I agree with you, probably it is a ****ing severe flu, but.......
Ciao.
Alex.

Re: Shortwingers please take care
OldPacer3,
It is far worse than a normal winter flu season.
Our UK government has just built an emergency, 4000 bed, hospital in London to be manned by military and UK health workers.
We don't have that happen every winter....
I trust this plays okay in USA.
It is a link to a very good graphical animation/cartoon about corona virus, how it forms, spreads, infects and kills....:

Re: Shortwingers please take care
People seem to be downplaying the seriousness of the corona virus! President Trump wants everyone back to work by Easter.
Folks it just ain't going to happen! Take note of what Tony said - this isn't a bad case of 'flue, it's much bloody worse!
We have been in lockdown at home for the last two weeks. Aeroclub has closed down, Qantas and Virgin have mothballed their aircraft. We have literally hundreds of thousands of workers who have been stood down!
Bottom line - stay away from other people.

Re: Shortwingers please take care
We live in a drinking town with a climbing problem. We are the base for accessing Denali the tallest mountain in North America. Our national park just closed the mountain and a few others to climbers because they couldn't process permitting safely. We are also a year round tourist destination with visitors from around the globe most of whom arrive in the summer via a cruise ship and the Alaska Railroad. Not any more.
My partner and I own what is called a Roadhouse and some historical cabin rentals. The Roadhouse has been open every single day for seventy six years: bakery, deli, restaurant, fireplace, showers, bunks, rooms, laundry, piano, Internet, hot chocolate, cold beer, and wine. The core of our town. The doors are closed and locked for the first time.
Ninety nine percent of our bookings have canceled.
All of our local businesses struggle to get through each winter paying key dedicated employees on monies saved over the summer. Spring break is usually our first infusion of income. Not this time. More painful then closing our doors was letting go of twenty hard working friends with families and bills to pay.
There will be no summer income and no means to get our small village of nine hundred souls through the following winter.
To be honest we have it good up here. Compared to most we are living a dream.
The hard part: I am high risk. It's my lungs: chemical pneumonia nine years ago. I contracted a viral infection almost five weeks ago, it then turned into a bacterial infection. I'm sick and weak and feel vulnerable. Both physically and emotionally. Emotionally because I can offer little support to my partner and my community.
It is sad watching our epidemic unfold in ways it didn't need to. In America I feel our federal government is failing us and the world. I'll politely leave it at that.
Alaska is of a political/social strata thickly populated by the misinformed. We will all pay.
Those who will pay the most will be our health care workers:
They will pay for the ignorant
They will pay for the selfish
They will pay for the greedy
My hat off and even a tear for the doctors and nurses, their like and kind; soldiers fighting in the long grass, their foe unseen, fallen by silent bullets.
And damn those without a care,
suicide bombers,
spewing without regard their deadly virions.

Re: Shortwingers please take care
Well, you have now had warnings from UK, Italy and Australia.
TAKE THIS VERY VERY SERIOUSLY...
It is not a winter flu bug. Over here someone called it the plague - does that hit home harder?
Stay away from other people, don't socialise and keep safe. Recommended distancing is 2 metres (7 feet) minimum if you must work or go out.
Follow your in-country guidance.
This plague spreads by droplets that infected folks cough or sneeze out. They can be infected and infecting others even if they show no symptoms.
Big problem is than an infected person can be carrying the plague for 7 days without showing any symptoms.
It can only get into your lungs etc. via the mouth, eyes or nose. It can't get in directly through the skin BUT the virus can live for up to 72 hours on various surfaces.
If you touch something that has the virus and then you touch your face /nose/mouth it will infect you.
WASH YOU HANDS FREQUENTLY AND THOROUGHLY WITH SOAP AND WATER, ESPECIALLY IF YOU TOUCH THINGS LIKE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLES AND GAS PUMPS.
I can't say any more...
Keep safe

Re: Shortwingers please take care
One on guys. Keep your political views off this site. There are plenty of Facebook sites you can vent on.
I see this stuff daily in the news media and I enjoy the absence of in on this site. Let’s keep it Shortwing.
