how light can I rebuild a PA22 colt?
Howdy Fellas, I have access to a PA 22 Colt airframe & a bunch of parts. Has anyone ever built one, bare bones. I would like to get it under 1322 lbs..600kgs MTOW to get it into the experimental class. Could even go back to single seat & single stick...will always be by myself anyhow... your thoughts?? As it stands it will never go back into a certified state & a shame to scrap the airframe. Thanks Dave

Make it a tail dragger and get rid of the nose wheel setup. Earth-x battery strapped to the floor, get rid of the battery box. Build boot and engine cowl with .025" instead of .032". Strip all interior use lightweight fabric and lightest materials you can find for the seat.
You could also eliminate the electrical system all together. No battery, generator, lights, radios, or wiring.

Install sticks like what his been depicted elsewhere on this website, that control column/yoke is very heavy.

Go with a lightweight prop, Catto. Use Sutton exhaust, light weight starter and alternator. Use 1.6 oz. Fabric. Dump the vacuum system. Use glass for the panel. Sticks like Steve says. Reroute the flap to overhead, which saves cable and pulleys. Have fun.
