Front Door Piano Hinge
Background: I have two doors, the original and a spare one that I put a patrol window in the lower half. I want to put on the patrol door, but be able to put the original door back on if I choose.
Problem: The bolt holes in the piano hinge from my original door don't line up with the patrol door. Thought to re-drill the piano hinge to match the new door pattern, but some of the holes will partially eclipse the old holes, making for a compromised attachment. Thought about attaching a new piano hinge at the boot cowl, but I think it might be welded to the frame...Is it?
Proposed solution, (brain fart): Buy a new piano hinge and only install the door side half of the hinge on the patrol door, and perhaps separate the original door by pulling the wire out and attaching the new door. I need to locate an exact match piano hinge. Thoughts on this idea appreciated. And where do I get a new piano hinge? Thanks.

Re: Front Door Piano Hinge
Ok, I see part number 11542-00 in my parts book but the picture is only of the frame side of the piano hinge. I need the door half of the piano hinge. Anyone know where to get one?
Thanks.

Re: Front Door Piano Hinge
I don't know of a source for the original steel hinge. What about welding up the holes in the new door with soft rod and drilling to match the original door?

Re: Front Door Piano Hinge
Thanks Steve. Yep. That's what I'm going to have to do.

Re: Front Door Piano Hinge
Seems like some vendors like McMasters might have hinge material that match your door.
We replaced the hinge on a twin comanche gear door with this procured material, it happened to be a
perfect match.

McMaster Carr is a great place to find all kinds of things. https://www.mcmaster.com/

Re: Front Door Piano Hinge
I'm going to weld the holes. I found a good match to the hinge in McMaster Carr under milspec. Piano hinges - 2" wide 302 stainless with 5/8" width on the individual knuckles. But I don't see how I can remove the hinge pin on the existing door hinge without surgery (dremel cutting). The hinge pin bottoms into the door frame V so it's not going to be extracted that direction...and the top is only poking out about 1/16". I can't grab it to pull up on it. I'm going to weld the holes shut on the new door frame and match drill them to the old.
