I’ve got a field approval for the SkySensor on the other side for my Clipper.

I’d like to know more about your field approval. Have wanted to do something similar on my Tri Pacer.

Installation of SkyBeacon on Colt
I have a Field approval that covers a revamping of the entire electrical system, EarthX battery, B&C L40 alternator, master and starter relays, battery on front side of the firewall, SkyBeacon on one side, skysensor on the other, FS4000 strobe on the belly, and a bunch of other stuff. Separate field approvals for Sutton Exhaust, dual groove trim, heated pitot and late PA-22 style static, X brace and reinforced anchors for individual seat belts (PA-16 was certified with single belts front and back), avionics shelf for ELT in the tail, removable inspection panel in the last fuselage bay belly, working on an STC for gross weight increase.

Re: Installation of SkyBeacon on Colt
I passed my Public ADS-B Performance Report, 2nd try. I haven't yet sent my 337 form in for that. I am not an IA only a measly A&P. The IA that drove out to my shop to sign off my Poly-fiber has installed many of the skybeacons, hell he was wearing a Skybeacon T-shirt. I kicked myself in the butt that I did not think to have that 337 form typed out and ready also but I asked him...I said that I had heard a hint from somewhere that an A&P can do the sign off and just wanted to know if that is true or not and he said "Oh, we really don't worry about that" I was confused and said sure we wont worry about that but shouldn't I worry about it. He had a friend with him and he started to laugh then somehow the conversation went somewhere else.
Just want to confirm with EVERYBODY here we all agree Not to worry about this sign-off, right? HA.HA I hereby swear that by the best of my knowledge I can and did screw in that light bulb and if it falls out I surrender my license, amen

DGA, I jumped right in since your last post was the last for over a month now..I just neglected to fully read all that. WOW, your quite the engineering master. I don't mean this but maybe the Bill Clinton pay to play of the FAA! kidding.

Sad thing is, I’m a DAR and DER, but can’t approve data for stuff I’ll use my IA to sign the 337. FAA considers that a conflict of interest. Fortunately my local inspector is also one of my DAR advisors ( forgot, they are now “managing specialists”), so he knows my capabilities and hasn’t had issues with signing block 3 field approvals for me.

Seems that I have fallen into a place here where I am surrounded by some of the highest of respected people in this field. Sure can see why you have such a large list of accomplishments and feel the need to do more. Being a DER and DAR you have worked hard and earned the right. My Dad was a Civil Engineer for the FAA in Alaska, smart as a whip. I remember the day he came home with a calculator boy was he mad they were making everybody use them.

Mr Bill, just so You aren’t giving credit where credit isn’t due, I’m one of the 3 or 4 vintage DERs that FAA has given out. I don’t have a true engineering background (although my day job is System Safety Engineer for the Navy). My DER is based on having gotten many Field Approvals over a period of many years. The Vintage DER program is the most underutilized program FAA has, primarily because most ACOs have no idea how to manage us. We are limited to those things that otherwise could be approved as field approvals, and we don’t work STC projects (although I have done a couple of them).
