I way I've addressed this issue in the past was to use a 6" tape, then the 3" to help spread the load out to the fabric. The idea being that it will lesson the effects of drumming to the fabric where it goes across that sharp edge.

Do you tuck both the 6" and 3" tapes into the windshield channel?

So, ignore this question... I can't imagine you tucking in three layers into the windshield channel.

Therefore, as you stated, the increased mass and thickness you lay on top is to minimize drumming. I have a feeling that the drumming is minimal. I don't have a headliner and can look directly at my outer fabric and that area inflight, and it is as smooth as a....uhm... very smooth and doesn't vibrate at all. I can feel it. IMO the real issue is erosion and stress induced by the free-stream aero-forces - shear force that works on the leading edge of the fabric constantly. I'm re-doping mine as we speak. Lots of nitrate and then three coats of silver butyrate dope, then color butyrate. I'm going to use a bead of silicon, too, right in the joint. That leading edge of fabric needs to be protected.

If I had to do it all over again I would throw a few stitches onto the top longeron.

The other possible factor that I've been contemplating is the action of the edges of the windshield as they vibrate against the channel with the fabric in-between.
I am assuming that's how these cuts in the roof fabric were made.IMG20210309115247.jpeg

Yesterdays efforts....Roof fabric with overlying 6" tape cemented into windshield channel.
2nd picture is back end of tape nitrated onto roof.

Masking and spraying tomorrow if temps and humidity ok.... forecast is 65F and 58%IMG20210328190842.jpegIMG20210328190830.jpeg

Did you have to spread/widen the channel gap to get them tucked in?

Well, it was all bent up when when I removed the fabric, so by the time I massaged it smooth i had to reset the gap anyways.
The other i did i didnt seem to have a problem sliding the window into the groove with that extra layer.
