I guess it depends on the budget. 340 or a 914/915? If you are a scrounger like me it would be a small Continental.

Do you think a o200 continental would be enough for 7200 elevation with a possible 9000 ft DA? strip would be 4000 ft.
I to am a scrounger and would like to find something I can overhaul.

All the formula 1 racers at Reno use the O200 @ 5000 ft. Being experimental you could get the rpms up, cam timing, prop pitch, advance timing, etc. Go to the F1 hangar at race time hang out and ask about their mods. Pushy Galore turned at 4500 to 5000 rpm. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller...2_Pushy_Galore

The O-200 is a good engine if you can get a C90 cam I think it would fit your mission better or a C85, C90. The O-200 makes it's hp at high rpm. Problem is you want torque to get you off the ground and probably a long prop. The 90 has a better torque and hp at the lower rpm. The race guys scream but don't care about the take off roll. It is all a compromise.

A stroked C-85 puts dynos our at about 95 hp and I think has the torque that steve mentioned

I'd love to try a turbo on a small engine like the O-200 to see what it would do....would the extra weight cancel performance gains? be neat to try....just dreaming

Just putting a turbo on won’t do much unless you have the fuel and ignition control to compensate for the higher BMEP. Modern cars can do it with electronic ignition and electronic fuel injection, but even then most aftermarket turbos and super chargers have revised or add on ECUs. You don’t get that with float carburetors and magnetos.
