A funny story about the noise test. Brian Sutton developed his exhaust to allow the rear mounted prop governor to be installed on the Super Cub for his constant speed prop STC. He determined the noise on the Sutton exhaust on paper and the FAA granted him the STC. Dane Wagner who developed the Leading Edge Exhaust with state of Alaska money got his exhaust approved shortly there after. Brian started selling a lot of exhaust systems less the constant speed prop STC and Dane filed a congressional complaint over the fact that Brian showed noise compliance but didn't have do the expensive field test. The FAA came to Brian about the complaint. Brian already had the STC and was not required to do the test but being Brian and wanting make the FAA happy he spent the money and had the test done. The exhaust system was with in half a decibel of what he had calculated.
