The Clipper uses an earlyer version, sans the B, but the colt can use the strait C1 or the C1B, so must not be too differwnt.

You could try using the Lycoming engine finder https://www.lycoming.com/engine-find...ws_fulltext_2=

    PA-12, PA-14 also used the O235C1.

I think all those applications are for impulse coupled magnetos. The major differances on "C1" from the "C1B" is no 1/2 adapter pad and associated longer studs at the LH magneto opening. Also the magneto and drive gear for the retard breaker magneto is different.

So...I would rule out the "C1" as a "Airframe" application for the "C1B' as it would require removing the retard breaker magneto, vibrator, switch wiring, Then adding a impulse coupled magneto, adapter plate, studs and gear. Probably cost prohibitive...say another $3000.00 in parts and pieces.

I’ve had a couple customers with Colts that had the shower of sparks removed and an impulse coupling installed.

    Hello

Thanks for pointing me to the Lycoming engine finder.
I am a PA-22-108 Owner, and am slowly learning as I go. So this is helpful.

I have a 0-235-C1 on my 61’ Colt and a 0-235 C1B in a crate as a back-up. I am just trying to compare the 2........1 may turn into FWF of the next project, not sure yet?

    thanks again

Lucky you....an heir and a spare. As dgapilot pointed out both engines are on the TCDS. Simple log book entry

Not quite so easy. If you keep it as a C1B, you need to add the induction vibrator and I think you need to change the mag switch. If you want to keep the airplane as is, you need to change the engine model to a C1 via the Lycoming SB (don’t have the number off hand), change the studs in the accessory case and change both mags.
