I would be willing to do the same if everything looked legit. I just offered a seller a $1k deposit site unseen with a visit this weekend for viewing a Pacer. I offered them full price if my visit went well and pending an inspection that I would arrange. I was just informed that they wanted to keep their options open and turned down the offer. Its definitely a sellers market but I'm not sure I want to get into a bidding war for a plane.

    Luscombeflyer,
That used to be my Pacer. He bought it for a lot more than he's asking and it was as close to perfect as they come.

It looked nice in the pictures and I thought a full asking price offer was fair with out seeing it in person..... hard to tell these days!

A couple weeks ago I received a post card from someone looking for a PA20 to teach their daughter to fly. Looks like the person asking used the registration data base and sent a post card to every Pacer owner... did anyone else receive that post card?

    Nope. I’m a PA22/20.
No way to search for those in the FAA database.

That’s because there is no such model. You have a PA-22 of some flavor, whatever your data plate says. It’s just modified to a different landing gear configuration. The actual aircraft model never changed.

There are 48 PA20’s registered in Alaska.

looked for mine and it doesn't show up.
Looked up airplanes in other states where I know they exist and found them but the list it came up with on one
request show three different serial numbers with the same registration number.

Yeah, there are lots of airplanes incorrectly registered. I know of only one PA-22 that was converted to a PA-20 with a data plate change. Even that is suspect given that when you look at the PA-20 TCDS, the only eligible serial numbers start with “20-“, not 22-. I give that one a pass as the paperwork was done by an FAA inspector. An airplane is what the data plate says it is, and if the model is changed, there needs to be approved data to back it up along with a supplemental data plate indicating the new model.

When I do certification work, one of the requirements is that the model on the data plate has to match the model indicated on the registration, and that is the model that goes on the Airworthiness Certificate. All three need to match EXACTLY!
