Walt, I would be very careful about any modification (drilling, cutting, tapping, etc) to your control yokes. Modifications and repairs to flight controls and their operating mechanisms can be a real hot button with the FAA. You could probably get a DER to approve it after you have destroyed a few yokes to prove the integrity of your modification. I personally do not like the Velcro or clamped switch’s, mainly due to the wires that always seem to be looped around the cockpit. We came up with a compromise where we installed a PTT switch next to the throttle that you could press with your extended finger and one on the right side of the panel next to the co-Pilot mic and headset jacks. Many airlines use a remote PTT switch so the non-flying pilot does not interfere with the controls to make a radio call.
    Just an opinion.

I remember some impressive PTT set ups in this thread. https://www.shortwingpipers.org/foru...8-PTT-Switches

Thank you, Steve! I'd never seen that thread, as I didn't get involved in the rat's nest of 57A until 2012. Read through the whole thing, sent a link to Andy, my A&P. Maybe the best part is, since I have very little experience in using a PTT on 57A, I suppose I could get used to it being anywhere.....

Thanks to all for the suggestions. We'll figure something out -- Walt

    Quick update:

I haven't seen the plane lately, but my A&P's been BUSY! He decided now would be the time to replace ALL wiring with appropriate aviiation-grade Tefzel stuff. He's pulled & replaced all wiring in IP, wings, tail, etc. Last folks who worked on this beast used CAT-5 stuff..... Yet another potentially dangerous "short-cut" being remedied. Sheesh. What a trip.

On the bright side, Spring (and warmer weather) are beginning to get here....
