Default PA-16 oval hole in floorboard

I bought my Clipper as a basket case and it has an oval hole approx 1" x 2 1/2" in the floorboard between the firewall and the passenger side rudder pedals and wonder what it was used for. Is the hole for electrical wires (seems way too big), or is it someones's modification? I checked a friend's Tri-pacer and it does not have it.

There are 2 oval holes for the brake lines but as you see they are closer to the pilots side.pa17.jpg

I’m working on putting dual brakes on my Clipper using Grove cylinders. Just waiting for my Field Approval before I buy the hardware. Have to build the brake pedals for the right side, haven’t been able to find any for sale.

One of the previous owners must have had a reason for it, but I guess I'll just put a metal plate over it. Thanks for the response!
