That is totally between you and the inspector or DAR doing the field approval. The regulations say verified aircraft need “approved” navigation lights. That generally means TSO light assemblies. Or at the very least you would need to show that they meet all the TSO requirements.

Might talk to your mechanic about one of these, mine had no problem installing one on a friends Super Cruiser, now he gets adsb in and has a strobe on one side at least. He is going to put the skybeacon on the left wing I think to have a strobe on both sides.
Re: Field approval for these nav light/strobe replacements
The SkySensor does not have TSO. This is the result of FAA policy saying that if a TSO is available for a function in a unit, every function must meet that TSO requirement. Not sure of the TSO number, but since the SkyBeacon isn’t wired to a display and uses WiFi, it can’t meet that TSO, hence the entire unit can’t get TSO. That said, Uavionix states that the lights meet all the requirements of the position light TSO and the anti collision light TSO. So for lighting, since the manufacturer has essentially the same unit TSOd without the ADS-B in, a lot of inspectors will do a Field Approval on it.

Yes, I saw that. However, here in the US, while not common, it is possible to work with a local FAA inspector to allow a "non certified" part to be utilised. I was asking if anyone had done this with these particular units.
Re: Field approval for these nav light/strobe replacements
One problem with the wing tip sky beacon is the strobe is supposed to be on a separate feed wire and if your airplane only has one power feed to the wing tip unless you can figure out how to properly feed and secure another power wire to the wing tip you can't utilize the strobe. I went with the tailbeacon on my 22 as it doesn't have a strobe anyway. I have installed skybeacons both ways on other planes.

Anyone know what light the TailBeacon is designed to replace ? It appears to be a Grimes Model S but I am working with a PA-20 owner that it doesn’t seem to fit… thanks
