If you have the wings open, the Dakota tanks are a great option.

The 8 gallon tank under the rear seat was never an option on the PA-20 series. It was only an option on PA-22-135, -150, -160 and seaplane versions of same. It also requires a flight manual supplement.

Does anyone here have direct experience installing these 23 gallon tanks? Labor hour estimates? Is it possible to Not recover the wing following tank installation?

I'm putting one in the left wing of my Clipper. So much depends on how hard it is to disassemble the existing structure. I'm having a hell of a time removing the #4 X 1/4 screws on a lot of the pieces. Outside of that, it is pretty straight forward. It could be done with just removing some of the fabric, but easier to do when covering the wing.

I have installed a pair of the 23 gallon tanks on uncovered wings. You could uncover the inboard bay from the #2 compression strut in and do the associated mods. You have to move the outboard tank bay rib out and add a third set of straps and new leading edge and a section of false spar.
