Wagabond lift struts
Geting close to time to start lift strut build. On wagaero site they say the that the streamlined tubing they sell for building the struts, is comperable to 1 1/2 inch .049 round. The question is has anyone built the struts out of round tubing then put aluminum fairings on them to achieve the streamlined shape? The cost savings over building with streamlined tubing is approx 60%. $1200

My KitFox was built that way but with a wood fairings.

Re: Wagabond lift struts
Early Stinsons were done with round tubing and balsa fairings and fabric covered. Note that the 1 1/2" round tubing is much wider than the cross section of the streamlined tubing. The thickest cross section on the front strut is only 1.313"

Re: Wagabond lift struts
Have you looked at using aluminum streamlined tubing similar to what Airframes has STC'd for the SC lift struts. It would be an easy solution and you may find cheaper non certified aluminum tubbing. Murphy Rebels use this type of strut. The steel bolt on brackets can be made.
