Re: Fuel Tank Felt Parts
The felt Piper used is SAE-F-50 .065" (1/16") thick. I tried all these other readily available felts but always had an issue with the tank sitting down into the wing correctly, filler neck too high/low,and the tank rubbing on the fuel tank cover and on Cubs the aileron balance cable. That is when I went on the hunt to find the same material. I found out felt has different hardesses and I finally found it but had to buy it in bulk which was more than what I needed so began selling it to my fellow Piper friends. If this felt works that will be great but just wanted you to know the pitfalls I ran into.

Re: Fuel Tank Felt Parts
What’s the best adhesive to use for the felts?

Re: Fuel Tank Felt Parts
Felts went in perfectly with the 3M adhesives. How much for enough to do the tank lid ribs? Thanks for all the help

Re: Fuel Tank Felt Parts
And here are the felts as I found them when I opened my wings up (probably from 1956!).... DSC06492.jpg
And here are Steve's replacements: DSC06513.jpg
They worked perfectly.

Re: Fuel Tank Felt Parts
I’m ready to take the plunge and pull my wings in mid-January and begin the Stewart Tips mod. While I’m in there I’ll want to correct any surprises. Steve do you still have the felt available for the fuel tanks?
