As an update to this thread, I finally got around to ordering the STC'd kit. I called Bill @ Casper Labs to place the order and he was very helpful and gave some great advice. I would highly recommend Casper Labs due to their great customer support.

    Troy,

If you use the Casper Lab adapter (I installed that one) it will fit but you'll have to install flex lines. I had flex lines and I still had to install a 45 deg fitting to clear the adapter and filter.

As a follow up, today I got my plane back from having the filter kit installed. Everything went just like Casper Labs said it would, no spacer needed for my setup, and no leaks. Actually looking forward to the next oil change.

    Scott,

One thing I noticed after about 70 hours on my Casper install; the large nut on the aft end of the adapter started seeping (the symptom was oil on the top of the muffler shroud). Simply a matter of re-tightening the nut and re-safetying -- just something to watch for.

How much labor was charged for?

i had a total of 4 hours of labor, which included the 50 hours exhaust AD inspection (1 leaking exhaust gasket found and replaced), oil change, wheel pants removal, and the installation of the Casper Labs kit. For my particular setup I would think the Casper Labs install would only take about one hour... it isn't much more involved than a standard oil change.

One thing my mechanic did relay to me after he called Bill @ Casper Labs is that the really old Lycomings like mine had the oil screen housing bolt holes drilled with a manual jig (whereas later they went to a machined process). This can create an interesting problem since the Casper Labs piece is CNC machined and the holes are very precisely drilled, and all the old Lycomings hole positions are somewhat unique... off a millimeter here or there causing bolt alignment issues.

What arm did you use for the Casper filter? I have to adjust W & B.
    Thanks

On my Colt's 0-235 Casper conversion, the difference in weight of the old filter housing vs. the new Casper adaptor and oil filter was small so we did not do a new weight/balance. They are both located at the same arm.

These are the weights I used but I would have to check the arm.
Casper Labs Lycoming 90 degree oil filter adapter 1 lb. 2 oz.
Tempest AA48108-2 oil filter 1 lb. 6 oz.
Lycoming oil screen and housing 12 oz.

I used an arm of -23 inches from the datum of the leading edge of the wing.
