Re: Look That Exhaust System Over
Good find and good topic to come back up. Continuing problem.

Re: Look That Exhaust System Over
Call Dawley before you send it. I had a WagAero muffler crack, Dawley said they couldn’t repair WagAero mufflers.

Re: Look That Exhaust System Over
Gilbert, I've been in touch with them both by phone and email (sent pics above). They said they'd have to wait until they actually see it, but to go ahead & send it to them. Guess they'll let me know if it can't be repaired, but it sounds as though --most likely-- they can. Been in communication with Kurt Keske in Sales Dept.
Thanks for the tip, however -- learned that the hard way when I was in charge of Purchasing/Shipping/Receiving for a mechanical contractor. I would NEVER send something out unless the receiver a) knew it was coming, and b) an RMA had been obtained ahead of time if necessary. Still good advice!

Re: Look That Exhaust System Over
Back when I was learning the A&P stuff, several of my mentors advised against any exhaust repairs from Wag Aero.
Not sure the reasons why but they convinced me to use Dawley. Have never had a problem with Dawley.
sent them a broken exhaust set for the #3 cylinder and I think the only thing that came back original was
the flange for the exhaust port.

Re: Look That Exhaust System Over
I'm not a big fan of repairing mufflers etc... Lots of reasons but mostly because the nickel content in the metal crystallizes with each thermal cycle. You can weld them up with patches etc...
I good tension free fit is essential but am not sure they don't relieve themselves after a good heat soak, you know like flying in Texas . Not sure if this is true though. Most failures tend to happen within the first hundred hours then around a thousand. Seems like the aft stack, the one with the heat scupper welded around it doesn't last and needs a really good look as one aproches 700 hours and more...
All they really need is a good preflight every time and a good 100 hour and annual.
