    Google gets it done.

The desired oil temperature range for Lycoming engines is from 165˚ to 220˚ F. If the aircraft has a winterization kit, it should be installed when operating in outside air temperatures (OAT) that are below the 40˚ to 45˚ F range.

    Steve,

    ... Looks like mine!

    Greg,

I was barely seeing 140 deg without (OAT at the airport being high 20s/low 30s). With the oil cooler blocked I'm seeing 180 degrees.

Oops, you did say CHTs ... these are oil temps obviously!

    Greg
Not sure on CHTs, I don't fly in really cold temps here in Texas, usually low 30s is the lowest and I don't have a CHT gauge so maybe someone with CHT gauges can answer this question.

Does anyone actually have the dash Placard for when the winterization plate is installed. ???
What is the actual wording on the placard?
Univair does not list the placard, which does not surprise me.

Mine was stenciled...said something...don’t recall the exact wording... for use when temperature is 40F or less/lower...

I gave it to someone on this group... maybe they’ll chime in.

    Check out post #108.
Wording is on the plate. Not the panel.

    Piper Report NO. 790

    Installation Instructions

Winterization Kit consists of oil radiator cover, Piper
No. 14793, Installed on the front of the oil radiator,
Placard, Piper No, 14090, installed in the cockpit in
front of and n full view of the pilot, and Winterization
Supplement, Piper Report No. 790. attached to the
    C.A.A. Approved Airplane Flight Manual.

    Limitations

Winterization Kit for use on airplanes operating in
outside air temperature below 40*F. Kit must be
removed when operating in temperatures above 40*F.

QUESTION??? Is the wording in the Limitations above, the same wording as on the
PLACARD as required by Piper Report NO. 790?

My original question was wording for the Placard. since Univair apparently does not have the Placard.

    Steve,

My referencing this information came from the PIPER REPORT NO. 790 dated 12/29/1952. Revised 9/30/1954

    Titled WINTERIZATION SUPPLEMENT TO

    Piper PA-18 135 thru 18A-150, PA-20-135 and
    PA-22 "135" PA-22 "150" PA-22 "160" AIRPLANE
    FLIGHT MANUAL.

    I currently have a 22-150 & a 22-160, neither have the Placard, but I do have one plate # 14793 with the 22-160.

I tape mine. Have forgotten when it went from 20 degrees to 70 in a matter of a few days. Had to land and remove the foil tape. Placard might have helped if I paid attention to it.
