heated pitot tube
Folks:
In order to fly at night or OTT in Canada: (From the CAR's) " a means of preventing malfunction caused by icing for each airspeed indicating system" is required
anyone out here ever installed a heated pitot tube as per the STC ? and where did you get the parts? Piper no longer supplies them
deep depression heavy sigh
Thanks in advance

I installed a heated pitot tube using STC SA1-386 as a reference a few years ago. Used parts readily available from A/C Spruce I think and got field approval. Several changes from the STC were necessary. I carefully constructed the mount from Al as described, but it did not orient the pitot tube as desired. Also my IA thought that the mount was not stiff enough. Designed a mount after carefull measurements and made the mount of sheet steel that was much simpler and stronger than that described in the STC.
I will look up the details and send if you are interested. As I recall there was a factor of two increase in the price within months of my parts purchases.

Type "heated Pitot" into the search box at the right side top of page. There are numerous threads on the subject already discussed.

Ok folks
STC SA1-386 is practically useless as the specified parts are no longer avialable. And with no field approvals here in Canada..... I think they call them Limited STC here
not giving up though- will call TC and get their input.
will keep you folks in the loop

heated pitot
I'm looking for information on a heated pitot installation. I have come across a few articles mentioning a heated pitot installation and field approval. I am getting close to covering and would like to add that to the list. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

There is a free STC out there. When I get home ill try and post the info. Check the FAA website for available STCs for your type. It will be listed there. Then google the number. You should find it. Otherwise just wait till I post it.

Re: heated pitot
the STC is: STC SA1-386
the STC lists a heated pitot tube from a Piper Comanche....
I searched high and low for the kit listed in the STC and even tried to find a used Pitot from a Comanche- no luck even from Piper-
So up here in the Great White North as per Transport Canada: any similar
parts that are approved on another installation can be substituted if the original parts are no longer available...
Not sure if that pertains to US regulations
hope this helps
