That's interesting news...I wonder if they will continue support and make it part of their lineup. They (Leading Edge) are a really well constructed product.

The news release says they will, EXCEPT for the Pa20/22, I typed it that way intentionally as that is the way the release shows it. It references Wayne Law as the STC holder, which is correct, in fact my second PA22 was the one that I fitted the LEES to and determined what minor changes needed to be made to get it into the Tri. Ultimately what it came down to was using the O-360 riser pipes on the left side to allow sneaking the exhaust pipe just that extra 3/4" to the right to clear the steering rod on the right side, along with a very minor clearance "dent" on the inboard side of the exhaust pipe. I'm reasonably sure that Wayne will be willing to provide LEES for the 20 & 22 once they are again available, but you should contact him directly.

I am sorry but after reading this whole thread I would not be installing this exhaust on my Tri-Pacer or Pacer. Way to many fit issues for an STC'd exhaust system.

    Steve,

I've read most of the same things. On a Pacer or 22/20 conversion there are other options, Sutton or if you can get it signed off the Vetterman(which I REALLY like), as well as the Attlee "Hot Rod" PA-18 muffler("should" be an easy FA, but still cantilevered to the back of the engine) come to mind, but on the Trike, I think it's about the only option other than Piper original as far as I know, though that same Afflee muffler "should" fit, and it "SHOULD" be an easy FA.

Also though it's somewhat a limited sampling I have either had or am very familiar with 6 sets/installations(ok, one of those is my long term project O-360, but the others have at least 400 hrs each, at the low end & some much more). All have installed with no incident other than what can be expected trying to squeeze that much stainless into the confined space of the engine cowl with 60 years of prior mods & "adjustments" sagging, etc.

I have no financial involvement with them, KW(defunct)/Wayne, not trying to sell anything, and as mentioned all my projects(3) either have one, I'll use it, or I have other options, Sutton/Vetterman or similar which are much less $$$. BUT with that said if I fell into a set for the currently flying tricycle PA-22, I'd install them in an afternoon. In fact when it's apart for annual I'm considering pulling the nice shiney new ones from my project and installing them on the TP. I'm sure I can get the STC re-issued to the different Tail #. THen dealing with the project between now & when it's finally flying, likely Vetterman as I have the time to fight FAA for approval between now & then.

For a tailwheel which doesn't have to work around all that nose structure I do really like some of the other options better & feel they "look" cleaner and aren't cantilevered to the back of the engine so less tendency to cracking, give better room for maintenance, etc. Though I'm not totally in love with the exhaust pipe coming out the side of the cowl on the Sutton.

Again, NFI & just my $.02 which doesn't buy much anymore.
