NAS Bolts on Landing Gear
Anyone using (or recommending) NAS bolts on landing gear? I've heard folks say its the ONLY way to go for additional shear strength, but it seems like most people are using AN bolts. Any thoughts/suggestions/etc.?

Re: NAS Bolts on Landing Gear
I would see no problem with using NAS or MS bolts on the gear - However-AN bolts should be more than necessary - as the gear failures I am aquainted with - the bolts are not the weakess link.

Re: NAS Bolts on Landing Gear
I believe the Piper engineers knew more than I ever will, so I am using what drawing 13113 calls out - AN6-27.

If it's not broken why change it?

Re: NAS Bolts on Landing Gear
I have seen broken landing gear and the bolt holds up fine.

Ditto, lots of bent and broken gear. I haven't seen a need for a stronger bolt. The fittings themselves do bend in an accident.

Nylock nuts legal? Or are castle required?
-
Re: NAS Bolts on Landing Gear
Nylocks seem to be pretty standard up here. No comment on the legal side.

Drawings show nylocks as original equipment. I used castle since they are subject to some rotation. Also needed two washers, used the length on the print referenced above.
