Sealed Struts Question

Never seen any official FAA document on bending things straight. Tell him to straighten the strut and when it kinks he can replace it.

There was an STC to seal the original struts as an AMOC to the original strut AD. I believe Jensen had one STC, and Attlee Dodge had another. They both retained the small clevises as I recall, so you still had the NDT and replacement requirement for the clevises. I think the later versions of the AD removed the AMOC for those STCs, but would have to do more research to confirm.

The channel was used in the PA-20 and -22 front struts. The PA-16 strut is the same dimensions as the PA-20 and -22 strut, but doesn’t have the channel, and has the bushings for the cable fair leads welded on the trailing edge. The drawing CD has the drawings for the original struts.
