Re: Cabin speaker
Will you retain the dome light and the grille?
Maybe thats a good place to install some sort of camera mount for the GoPro etc...

Re: Cabin speaker
Haha, after I posted the question i realized "What the hell am i going to do with the big hole left in the headliner?" So the speaker came out, but the grill went back on... for now.

Re: Cabin speaker
Ok, I read all your comments up to this point. I fly from a D airspace. To this time I've used my speaker option to listen to ATIS prior to flight as does Idahopacer. Just flick the Master switch, turn on the radio, throw the "speaker" toggle and sit there without the engine running and listen to ATIS. Handy when the cloud cover is 100% but VFR, but you can't tell if it's 1,100 feet or 1,600 ft. or BKN or OVC, or what. Then I can get the remaining pre-flight done before starting the engine and taxiing out. Saves fuel since I'm not sitting there idling while I listen the slurred and inarticulate speech of a Controller in Training for the third time to get all the info written down. Once I start, flick the toggle to "headset", and the speaker is off. Then again...I don't need it. I could just put on my headset without the engine running...I wouldn't have the weight of the speaker, and could even do without the dome light and my headliner that I'm actually about to attempt to install after 19 months of flailing, would be simpler and cleaner looking. I'm soliciting for opinions. Thanks in advance. Speak freely.

Re: Cabin speaker
Have only used my speaker twice in 30 years, listen to atis. decided if i really needed to listen to something before I was to start, I either didn't plan properly or get a portable VHF transciever. Bought the icom portable to take care of the problem. History, only used it three times in last 15 years. I guess it depends where you are and what your
mission is. I now have the Skylight so the speaker that was not used is gone. Skylight did away with the fwd headliner, made it easier to inspect and lube trim cable and handle and pulleys.

Re: Cabin speaker
I never used the speaker. I look at the weather on my phone or call our AWOS station on the phone.

Re: Cabin speaker
I like the speaker option personally. On a hot day I like to listen to ATIS, Ground, and Tower, prior to engine run up via the speaker, then slide the headsets on as part of the pre takeoff checkup.
I have the older half size skylight so the speaker is still enclosed in the headliner.

Re: Cabin speaker
I listen to the ATIS while the engine warms up with the headset. I chucked that 10 pound speaker years ago.
If anyone wants one it’s yours for the cost ship it.

I haven't had a speaker for years. Every ounce counts.
