    BM,

    if I was in experimental mode I would round up a set of the old edo fiberglass float struts, the ones made of round steel tubing and threaded rod end bearings on them and fit up to aft and diagonal struts.

    Then, using the adjustable ends, you could go out and see if there is an optimal keel angle and step location for given loads.
