What torch are you successfully using?

Is anyone using the Meco midget torch?

I’ve got a couple WWII vintage Smiths #2 torches, the tips with a “v” give a nice soft flame, especially for aluminum. I’ve got V23, V24, V25 and V27 tips. Nice light torches, easy to maneuver. Get lightweight flexible hoses.

I got the whole setup from Tinmantech back in 1999, and it has changed my life, welding wise.

It is the best thin wall tubing torch I've ever used.

I have one of those little Mecos someplace, haven't used it in years. I have one of those old Henrobs I think it is or was......... called something else now. Works good for welding sub assemblies on the bench, too awkward for me on a fuselage. Best for me is the Smiths AW or Airline, seems to be the most widely used for gas welding.

I have vintage Purox (Linde) W-200 and an odd ball Marquette Jet-O-Matic. I'm thinking about a new lightweight torch. Smith has a small AW1A replacing the AW10A. It is actually smaller and lighter.

Mine is the small and versatile AW1A. But I am definitely not in the welding league with Stephen. I am a novice.

I've seen some beautiful pictures of welding posted here. Mostly TIG. I'm not spending the money for TIG plus, I don't see how they get into the corners and tight spaces I can get to with gas. But, my experience with TIG is limited. I recently read glowing reviews on the Midget Meco. But, I'm worried about how it does with the larger clusters. Plus, I like the feel of the round torch handles. My aircraft welding is repairs or modifications. I'm joining old mild steel with new 4130. I use my heavy duty Lincoln or MIG for auto work. The AW1A looks the most interesting; I see it as low as $120. The tips are not cheap. What number tips do you use for aircraft tube work

The Smith#2 I use is the predecessor to the AW1A, unfortunately they don’t use the same tips.
