57A going back together

So my A&P says, "Fuel's fine; just go fly it!" Great idea, but I've just learned that my CFI's wife came back from their Europe trip sick. Thought it was a head cold... Nope. Covid. And now he's got it. Ugh. It's still out there, folks!

Guess flying's out for a while yet....

Not trying to hijack Walt's thread but it got me thinking. My right tank drains slower and I know the path is longer and more convoluted, down-up-over-and-around to the valve. When I replaced the gas tank rubber hoses in the root area a couple years ago, I had to work at keeping the new hoses from kinking on the forward lines. A year later at annual the kink had reappeared on the right side. Kinks don't help flow. Not sure if any others have seen this. What kind/name brand of rubber hose are you all using?

No problem, and a good thought. I'd have to remove the root fairings to look, but I think we used Aeroquip 303 from ACS.

I have noticed the propensity to kink as well using Parker Superflex…

I would think the name is a misnomer. I mean, really, doesn’t “ super flex”
seem like a promise not to kink??!

Nothing wrong with thinking about fuel flow...but every airplane I have ever flown that has a both setting drains at an uneven rate. And the top cub at work drains from the right even though the selector is on the left. Just manage your fuel, feed left only if it is getting unbalanced during long straight legs. And by all means if there is a real problem good to fix it, but uneven flow doesn't mean there is a problem.

So -- advancing by bits & pieces. Still have little things come up, but 57A is now flying, and flying well -- a good, honest 100kts airspeed. Engine running very well.

And-- at 75 yrs old, I passed my written test Wednesday! Currently off on an RV (motor home, not the plane) trip to Newfoundland again, returning in a month or so... then back to flying!

Great news, enjoy the vacation and then enjoy getting your ticket. Maybe one day we will see each other at a fly in. Yours is an inspirational story. Very happy for you. Brian
