Idaho Wildfires

A question for the Idaho locals, how is the wildfire situation around Johnson Creek/McCall area right now? I’m planning to visit the area again in the next two to three weeks (I will come form Virginia). Looking at the ForeFlight weather the visibility doesn’t seem to be too bad right now. I would stay four days to a week to visit some of the strips I couldn’t get into three years ago because of wild fires.

The smoke blows around during the days but has been bad the last few days, can't see the hills at all today, it may clear out for awhile but will fill back in. The temp tower has been shut down for now, probably till next year. Check the Boise's news channel's weather for good info.

Thanks for the update. I may have to skip Idaho this year, too bad.

McCall airport and Johnson Creek used to have a webcam, but both don’t seem to be active anymore.

Someone posted somewhere that the Johnson Creek webcam was back up.

Hmmm, I just tried, but it doesn’t look like the webcam is up.

If you bail on Idaho , check the Arizona Pilots Association website . They have 4-5 good backcountry strips .
And of course there is Utah . And that info I sent
Lots of alternative's

Yes, Idaho is less likely this year. Plan B is to fly to Utah first (there are some strips I haven’t been to yet), then on to Lone Pine for a couple of days (thanks for all the info), then out to Catalina Island and from there a stop at Sedona at the way home.

A couple of us are planning on meeting up in Utah at the end of September.

Would be great to meet there, but unfortunately I have to be home the end of the month. I had originally planned to attend the Lone Pine fly in, but then something came up so I had to move my trip to beginning/middle of September.

My annual trip out West is jinxed this year. First the wildfires in Idaho and now there are fires in California as well. I hope all the people living there are OK.
Besides the wildfire situation I knew I had to be home the end of September to take care of new tenants moving into one of our rental units. But now we also sold one rental unit and I have to be home for the next two weeks to go through the motions of preparing it for closing day.

Now I’m looking at possible October for a trip. I know Johnson Creek closes down end of September. Last time I was in Utah was the middle of October 2019 (when I also attended the High Sierra fly in at Dead Cow lakebed). I remember the first snow was moving in to parts of the area just as I was leaving. I'll see what I do this year. Maybe Arkansas is back in play.

I like Utah mid October but just have to check the forecast. A buddy got caught off guard when it got down to 22 degrees one night but it warmed up fast to 70 during the day.

Arkansas is a great option for me if I don't want to go far and still have fun.
