I just bought a wagabond with a 290d engine and spring gear. As well it has pacer wings so has flaps. A few other nice mods are seaplane doors and Sullivan wingtips. It’s ready to cover. I’m thinking about doing the following- stretching the fuselage, moving the ailerons out and extending the flaps. My goals are a bushplane and float capability. As far as I can tell this will make it a light pacer. I would appreciate any comments. I’ve researched the pacer stretch and know it’s not a cub. But it should be a nice compromise of fast and reasonable stol.

If you aer not lengthening the wing I would not stretch the fuselage. Moving the ailerons out and lengthening the flaps works very well from the Pacer I flew that was configured that way. Slower landings and better aileron authority.

I think Steve has given excellent advise. At a minimum, it would be wise for you to attempt to know what is involved and the benefits that are derived from using the Pacer wings and making the changes he mentions. I have found some examples in the FAA registry of what is called the 'Super Wag-A-Bond' built from the Traveller version of the plans. I contacted the few owners I identified in the FAA & CAA aircraft registries by mail but have yet to receive a response from them to know what changes they made to their aircraft. The examples I found pictures of used the Pacer tail not the version you have. The stretched Pacer's are capable aircraft but represent a big effort. See these threads to understand them and the suggestion Steve mentioned better:

Thanks for the reply’s. I agree that I dont want to start doing anything more than needed. I know I want to move out the ailerons and enlarge the flaps. So mainly my goals are to be able to put it on floats. I’m just going on the assumption that the short fuselage (18’ 7”) Is 23” shorter than the pacer. So I figured with the added flaps and short fuselage I may need to stretch it. Also the 0-290d engine is bigger than most engines recommended for the traveller. I’ve researched what’s involved in stretching a pacer and know it’s a lot of work but I’m not in a rush and have a few other planes to fly (chinook, lancair, and tcraft ) so this is a project to build something ideal for me rather than easy. But I’m open to ideas and advice and have followed many people here and on supercub site.

Right-on! Being in Canada, I was seriously considering making an offer on that project! If I knew I could have snuck it home without senior management catching-on, I would have. Great value there!

Congratulations!

Ha. I still need to go get it. I live in the nwt. I looked at the ad a few times before I succumbed.
I’m in Edmonton now picking up my lancair. I seem to have an airplane problem😀
