original starter rebuild

Does anyone have any information on rebuilding an original starter on a o290-D2?

I know everyone will be pushing me to buy a new one and save weight, etc. However, our starter still works but it's just a little weak. I was wondering if it's as simple as rebuilding a regular automotive starter.

YES-only the nose where it bolts to the case is different.

I had mine rebuilt by a automotive starter shop for $45.00 New bearings and cleaned up the armature and put in new brushes. Works great now. Mine happened to come off an air boat.

I know for a fact that the FAA periodically monitors this and many other sites.
