Hi All

last night my radio began to act up. I all of a sudden couldn't transmitt. the FSS says that they recieved my carrier signal but no voice.I could recieve 5/5 Then it began to work again 5/5. did 6 circiuts- then quit again as the A/C was taxing in to the hangar.
any words of advice before i have to go and spend my mad money at a avoinics shop.

thanks all

Try a different mic. The best would be a hand held mic with the push to talk on the mic. That would eleminate some of the plugs and connections associated with a headset through a innercom as is so commonly used.

I would definitely check the PTT switch or mic first. Same symptoms I had with a broken wire in the PTT switch.

The fact that ATC coud hear you carrier with no audo indicates the PTT is activating the transmitter. The mic or audio wiring to the radio could be the problem or the mdoulator in the radio could have gone bad. The fact that it works then does not indicates it probably something external to the radio. Make sure your mic jack and plug are free of corrosion and the wiring at the mic jack is in good shape. Make sure the radio is secure in the rack.

thanks for sending me in the right direction. I strongly suspect the mic jack or the wiring to the mic jack. went out yesterday morning to check on the radio and it worked fine with 3 different head sets and a hand held mic.couldn't go flying :( as i stopped to help put the siding on the new Flying Club hangar. And it was a GORGEOUS day for October. Not many of those left before the snow flies
I have even greater motivation to get that new intercom in and get rid of those old jacks
thanks again for the help- my mad money is safe this week.....
