Tailbrace Wire Nipple

Anyone have one of the bronze piper barrels (for lack of a better description) that the tailwire screws into for the attachment to the fin and stabs. I broke one and need that part only. WagAero and Univair will only sell you a complete wire. I hate to buy that as everything else is fine. There has got to be one of those laying around in someones parts bin.

We need more info. A detail picture of what you have there would be ideal. It just "doesn't sound right" that Univair doesn't sell "just the fitting". Sure they do. Now, you MAY have something out of the ordinary that someone incorrectly put there, or you MAY have the streamlines tailbrace wires (which are prone to "nicking", and require an inspection frequency designed to irritate an Owner into replacing them with "new stuff"). If someone has not replaced the tailbrace wires with the round ones, AND if your fittings are the "folded over" type (as opposed to a "flat, angled lug",) then Univair does indeed service then as "piece/parts" (meaning, they DO sell "only the "spoke nipple" part, as a unit). If you have the "flat fitting" and/or the streamlined wire... you should indeed consider the [rather seemingly over-expensive] option of finally admitting defeat to the Airworthiness Directive and I recommend replacing the tailbrace wire ASSEMBLIES, in toto.

I'm away from my desk, but someone should be able to easily chime in with the proper Univair part number for the nipple.

Univair sells the individual parts. I use the Pacer parts manual to look up little parts like this. Will get you a part number when I get to the hanger.

I have the original folders over fittings with the standard original round wires. Univair does not list them as seperate (only as complete wires), but maybe when I call, they will break them down. Everytime I rebuilt one of these old pipers I break at least one. They get so corroded together over the years, it takes lots of soaking in kroil to release. I guess I got a little in a hurry on the first one.
Thanks.

Page 5-31 in my Univair catalog has the breakdown. The parts are the same on all ragwing Pipers with round tail brace wires.

Thanks, steve.
Guess my catalog is too old, My pages are not numbered like that and only show the complete assy. I will order on Monday.

By the way, next time you talk to your dad, say hi for me. Tell him my old Clipper now has 29" BW.

Is the jamb nut special? It doesn't seem to be listed separately from the nipple?

I went to my "aviation supply shop" (local bolt shop) and got stainless steel "AN" nuts - put them on the buff and they polished up really nice and shiny.
(It's ok guys - that's the only time I have not used genuine AN hardware.)
