Hey everyone,

2021 is going to be a good year! We got the green light for the 2021 convention in Lock Haven, PA starting June 21 running through June 25. This will be a great Convention and if you haven't registered yet, get signed up! Even though this is the 70th anniversary of the PA-22, we are also celebrating the PA-20 because we didn't have a convention last year. We want all of the Short Wing Pipers to show up and make this a convention to remember for years to come.

It doesn't stop there, in July we are going to Oshkosh and again we are getting treated very well and want a great turnout! We have been given 50 parking spots all in a group just for our Short Wing Pipers. We will be staging in Baraboo WI (KDLL) prior to our arrival at (KOSH). We will start arriving at KDLL on July 21, brief on Friday evening July 23 and depart for KOSH on the morning of July 24! To make it even better we have reserved the Tall Pines shelter for a Sunday evening get together.

I will up date this when more information is available, but please let me know if you are planning to attend, so I can get a head count for attendance.

Steve

Steve, thank you for organizing these events. I’m planning to be at both events. The convention is a strong maybe, but OSH is a positive go.

I plan to be there! Join everyone at Baraboo Thurs or Fri. It'd be nice to meet some of you ugly mugs :) Lets hope the weather is favorable.

If you are coming all the way to Wisconsin you have to go to a Supper Club. Just north of Baraboo is one of the best in WI, Ishnala Supper Club. https://www.ishnala.com/

Its located inside of a WI State park on Mirror lake (seaplane restricted). Just minutes away from the Dells, Lake Delton, and Baraboo area.

You can also camp at the park as well as rent kayaks or canoes.

Got my tickets for Oshkosh but won't be able to stop at Baraboo. Hope to see some of you guys and your planes there.

There's also Al Ringling Brewery in Baraboo, WI. I am a beer snob, definitely want to check it out one day!

I’d love to be part of this, but I don’t have my medical certificate yet so I’m stuck at pre-solo.... Just an FYI the Tailwind folks are having a get together at Baraboo the weekend before Airventure as well....

You can still be part of the celebration. You are welcome to visit Baraboo and see short wings and tailwinds, then join in at Oshkosh. The planes only get us there, its about the journey and the people that make it great! Come out and meet everyone and put a face with the screen names.

I would like to plan on attending the group parking deal and the arrival. Any idea where the parking spots might be located in the Vintage area?

Zac, we will be south of the Vintage red barn in the triangle north of the Ultralite area. We will be allowed to camp with our planes if we want! About the first of June I am going to start asking for everyone interested to contact me so we can keep track of how many people we have and open a line of communication.

Cheers,

Steve Carruthers

Sean, please keep me in the loop. I have a friend who would be interested in flying in my airplane to attend. So, I might be able to make the group fly in and parking. N9645D just might make it.

Steve,

Any updates on plans for Oshkosh?

I’ll be attending and would like to park with everyone, but most likely will be arriving separately / early.

That triangle area is great. It’s close in and not far from amenities, plus it’s close to all the fun STOL stuff later at night!

Thanks!!!

We are working on it now! If you can attend, we are gathering at KDLL starting on Wednesday July 21, and will brief Friday evening and depart Saturday morning for KOSH. If you are planning to participate, please let me know your "N" number and how many people are in your party. I am putting a spreadsheet together because we only have 50 spots, and I want to make sure everyone gets a place to park. We also have the Tall Pines reserved for Sunday evening for a get together and a catered dinner, so if you want to attend, please let me know that as well.

We will not be flying in a formation, but it will be an ant trail nose to tail into KOSH. We want everyone to have a great time and be safe! Make sure you have a copy of the NOTAM

Please either PM me or email me with your information.
Hope to see everyone at Oshkosh!

Steve,

Unfortunately I’m working the weekend before. I’ll be on the road Tuesday morning early. Wx dependent I’ll make OSH late Tuesday or early Wednesday. If parking is available would love to put 31D with the rest of the gang, looking forward to meeting up with everyone.

Greg

If joining the group to fly in, will it be more like a group arrival or still normal individual fisk approach?

Because our members do not all hold a formation (FAST) card and the FAA and EAA do not want large groups endangering others, it will be an ant trail FISK arrival.

Ok. I knew single file just didn’t know if it would be treated like other mass arrivals. Thanks.

I watched the “tips for flying into Oshkosh” and they showed the schedule for the mass arrivals. We were not listed. Do we have a time slot yet?

Having worked the mass arrivals as a volunteer we aren’t a mass arrival. That is when everybody gets shut off at Ripon while they land. Since we are just going to be an ant trail they will just run us up the tracks and then we’ll have a credential that shows we go to special parking. I’d rather do it this way vs all the formation training to do the mass formation.

The watch-out for the in trail arrival; everybody has the same altimeter setting, flys the same altitude and airspeed and maintains at least 1/2 mile separation.
The 2009 and in trail SWPC arrival came apart and got disorganized for the above reasons and a lower than expected ceiling and visibility.

Wish I could be there to see but I am driving in and won't get there until Sunday evening.

Flying in - would it be required or recommended to buy tickets beforehand ? tia...

They were offering a small discount to pre-purchase and ship tickets, but that has expired. I’d just get them when you arrive.

Did someone in our group let the parking boss know to expect a bunch of SWP's arriving around a certain time on Sat?

Also, will we get the "credential that shows we go to special parking" at the Friday briefing or do we print it at home before we head to DLL?

Sorry for the delay in updating everyone. Okay I think I have finally gotten a handle on everything with the you have to get approval from everyone in the world before you can do this. I have finally received the last approval and everything is set!

Baraboo airport KDLL is ready to start receiving airplanes and pilots on Wednesday July 21
On Friday July 25 we will have a cookout around 6pm with a briefing to follow. With food in their mouth we can talk about what comes next. I will also pass out parking placards
Saturday morning around 8am we will start our nose to tail trip into Oshkosh. Everyone must have a copy of the NOTAM!!
Once on the ground at Oshkosh display your Vintage parking placard then when you get to Vintage display your Short Wing Piper placard parking us in Rows 81W & 84W

On Sunday July 25 at 6 pm we will have a catered dinner at the Tall Pines! We are limited to not more than 70 people, so please make sure I have your name to avoid having too many people.
It will be by donation and the menu is:
Chicken Marsala and Bacon wrapped Pork Fillet
Green Beans Amandine
Baby Red Potatoes
Fresh Tossed Salad
Bars and Brownies for dessert
with canned soda (Pepsi products) and bottled water to drink

If you are not on the list and want to be, let me know! If you want to park with us and cannot make Baraboo I need your email address so I can send you the parking placard! We only have 50 parking spots, so make sure we have your information please.

Have a safe flight and hope to see everyone there

Is the dinner only for those flying in or can those of us driving in attend also?
Everyone is welcome, it doesn't matter how you get there! This is for Short Wing Piper enthusiasts, and its about the people on Sunday evening!!!!!!!!!
